Hello Writer.

UPDATE - Jan 31, 2025

Write with Danica is going through some changes. I stopped posting new videos back in November, but am figuring out how to get back to it. What can I say? I’m still learning how to balance projects as a freelancer.

Usually, this is a paid Substack, but I am making it free for the foreseeable future. At least until I figure out how it fits into the big picture of my work as a creative entrepreneur and start posting videos again. Please enjoy the videos, they exist to help you develop your writing practice with good habits.

Keep writing. Keep creating. xoxo Danica

Let’s get you writing!

That’s what this class is all about. YOUR writing practice. YOUR writer’s heart. 🥰

The only obstacle separating the writer you are now from the writer you want to be is getting your work done. It’s the only way to learn. It’s the only way to grow.

So, let’s get your writing done. Together.

I’m Danica.

I’m here for you.

About me:

I am a creative coach who loves walking alongside writers as they take their writing in the direction that they want it to go.

I have been writing pretty consistently for two decades and have reached the point where most of my paid work is writing or writing-adjacent.

I have an MFA in Creative Nonfiction (my BA was in Philosophy and English) and I used to own a bookstore 🥹.

Now, I write freelance, facilitate workshops in my city (Vancouver 🇨🇦) and provide one-on-one coaching for other writers. I also offer a professional beta-reading service. Write with Danica was born out of writing classes I used to teach at the bookstore.

Some of my favourite things: long meandering walks (but especially without my phone); getting my hair cut; swimming in oceans, lakes, and rivers; happy hour patios; any kind of dessert (but especially ice cream) and Uni-ball Signo DX pens with a 0.38 tip (especially the dusky colours). I have a little black lab named Lucy 🐾 who shows up in class occasionally.

Here for you,
❤️ Danica

Class Schedule:

Short Classes:
Most of the classes are 30 minutes or less and are structured like so:

  • 10 minutes to set an intention, learn something, warm up with a writing exercise, or reflect on the writing life you are cultivating.

  • 20 minutes for you to work on your writing.

The point of class is to get you sitting, focused, engaged, and ready to write. We do a 20-minute writing focus because that is a short enough amount of time that you can do it any day, but it might be enough to get you into a flow state, and able to go for longer. If you want to.

Longer Skills Classes:
Once per week, usually on a weekend, we do a longer class.

These classes are 60-90 minutes and are structured like so:

  • We read some examples of excellent writing and analyze the literary technique involved.

  • We start with some related writing exercises that will help you better understand the mechanics of the skill we’re learning about.

  • We take an opportunity to apply the skill to your own writing project, helping you to revise and improve as you go.

  • As always, we close with 20 minutes for you to work on your writing.

Monthly Goal-Setting:
Toward the end of every month, usually on a Saturday, we have a special class dedicated to setting and tracking goals, which is a proven way to improve at anything.

How to Build YOUR Writing Practice:
Of course, all classes are available to subscribers anytime! I hope that this guide will help you choose videos that will be supportive for your writing practice in particular.

I publish several new classes each week so that you have lots to choose from. If you can only do 1-2 classes per week, that’s great! Maybe next month you can grow your practice to 2-3 classes. Starting small, growing slowly and building a consistent writing practice will serve you in the long run.

Join the class anytime. Cancel anytime.

Your writing is important! I’m here to help you create time and space in your life so that you can accomplish the good writing work that is yours to do.
