I'm considering getting together 15 poems to submit to the Frontier Poetry Chapbook Prize. The dead line is coming up, but I'm a little unsure about actually submitting. I don't have to write anything new. It's just a matter of going through what I have and creating a collection with some kind of theme or through-line. Listening to your courses/videos have pushed me to at least think about doing this. I'll let you know if I hit submit.

Writing helps me process my thoughts as well. Thank you for talking about this aspect of writing. This discussion clarifies the difference between words on a page and the art of writing. I enjoyed this lesson today.

Hi Michelle,

I'm so glad you liked it. I was worried that today's class wasn't as good as they usually are, so I appreciate the encouragement. Thanks for saying hi!

I like this differentiation between writing and producing written content, especially the producing part. Would it be similar to a movie producer role?

Hi Tim,

Thanks for saying hello :-)

I don't know anything at all about producing movies, so I'm not sure how to compare. I'm curious to know what parallels you are thinking about.

By 'producing written content' I meant writing in the sense of content creation, especially for marketing, which requires copywriting skills, and sometimes a bit of creativity, but maybe not so much literary talent or intellectual engagement with the material.

Hey Danica,

Thanks for the explanation. I do quite a bit of content creation for work, and I agree that it definitely takes less literary talent and intellectual engagement with the material.

Movie producers plan and coordinate various aspects of film production, like selecting the script, coordinating writing, directing, editing, and arranging financing. I was thinking about parallels with writing, that sometimes writing requires producing (whether it is done by a separate person or whether it's a task that the writer does). For example, a book producer might bring together writers, editors, designers, and financing to get a book published. Anyways, that was where my mind was going when you differentiated between writing and producing.

Oh yeah, that's a really interesting parallel to draw. The book producer might be the publisher then? Putting things together is a lot of fun.
