Class 75: Your Small Writing Efforts Matter

Writer, it's true! Today's class will show you why.

Hi Writer!

YES YOU CAN build your writing practice in 20-minute chunks.

I’m not kidding. This is habit-building science.

In today’s video I revisit a basic principle of how you can use these simple little classes to build a regular and sustainable writing practice.

And for that reason, today’s class is free for everyone. Please share it and help WWD Danica grow.

If you’re new, HELLO! It’s nice to meet you. I’m Danica and I’m here to help you grow in your writing practice.

Six years ago life was busy but good. I was a the primary parent of two middle-school-aged kids, working full time in an office job that I wasn’t made for, and a contributing community member here and there. I kept trying to fit my writing—my passion—into the leftover nooks and crannies of my life, and it felt impossible that I’d ever make anything of it.

Well, one day I simply decided to move writing to the centre of my days.

I decided, and then I started taking steps.

It took a few years but I did it! I spend every day in my cute little home office. I write for clients. I write for myself. I write for you. I do other things like making videos, coaching and teaching, and it’s all amazing! And, while I’m not exactly swimming in coin, I am certainly earning more than I did at my office job. Huzzah!

Compensation aside, my favourite things about this particular stage of my career and life are:

  • Having autonomy over how I structure my days.

  • Supporting and working alongside other creatives, entrepreneurs, and organizations that are putting good things out into the world.

  • Saying no to people who suck.

  • Growing the skillset that makes me happy and serves my aims rather than skills that are in service of nothing other than someone else’s bottom line.

  • Unapologetically taking mental health breaks when I need them (because I need them. Most people do, hello!)

  • This cuuuuute and functional office. (A year ago I was still working at a desk in my bedroom so I thank God for this office every day.)

  • Exercising my creativity every day.

Enough about me, what’s your story? Is it your turn to make a decision?

Write with Danica is a reader-supported publication. To grow your writing practice and support my work in the process, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

If I can do it, Writer, then you can do it, believe me.
